Insect Invasion on Taj Mahal

             The Taj Mahal in India , is One of the World's of Wonder . 




It is Monument of  Pride for India but now it is attacked by the insects. Green and Black stains have once again started appearing on the marble walls of Taj Mahal due to insect attack. The Archaeological Survey of India's (ASI) superintending archaeologist (Agra circle) Vasant Swarankar said the issue has become a permanent problem as filth in the Yamuna river provides an ideal breeding ground for insect . The ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) has now scrubbing the walls of the 17 th century monument every Friday  when visitors are not allowed - to clean the stains.

Why is this Happening ? 





According to the Archaeological Survey of India experts , black and green patches appear due to the excreta deposited by a particular species of Insects , Goeldichironomus . This can damage intricate designs , floral mosaics and the marble surface of the monument . Earlier , the monuments faced only bug attacks especially during the months of April and October , but at present , this occurs regularly, said an expert.





The factor mostly responsible for the growth of insects is the phosphorous deposits , as ash is dumped from a nearby cremation ground on the river bed. The growth of algae is profuse due to phosphorous on the soil, and insects eat algae and excrete on the walls.  The Distilled water is being used to clean walls , adding the repeated scrubbing can damage the sheen of the marble .
