India's First Garbage Cafe

LIVE IN NOW, HEAL THE PAST AND

DREAM THE FUTURE ,

BUT TILL THEN FEED ON KNOWLEDGE.

#Know1

The country's first garbage cafe has been launched in Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh. Under this, the Municipal Corporation will provide food to the poor and homeless in lieu of plastic waste.

What is the offering ?

Persons fetching 1 kg plastic waste will be offered a full meal while those collecting 500 gm waste will get a substantial breakfast.

Fact of the blog

Ambikapur already has a road made with plastics granules and asphalt. The first such road in the state has been made in the city by mixing 8 lakh plastic bags. The road constructed by mixing Plastics and Asphalt is durable, because water permeates.

How the garbage will be used -:

Ambikapur which has been selected as the second cleanest city after Indore, plans to use the plastic for construction of roads.

The Scheme

The budget provides Rs 5 lakh for the Garbage Cafe Scheme. There is a plan to provide free shelter to the homeless who collect plastic waste.
The Mayor, Ajay Tirkey who presented the city`s municipal budget on Monday stated that the cafe will operate from the city's main bus stand. The Garbage Cafe has been allocated Rs 5 lakh under the budget presented. Apart from this, the budget also had plans to provide the homeless with shelter.
The Garbage Cafe scheme is openly linked to the Government's cleanliness campaign 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. The city's corporation has already minimized the use of plastic bags as well has constructed the state's first road with a mix of 8 lakh plastic bag granules and asphalt.

Last year, the city of Ambikapur ranked 40 .

The is a city solve its hunger and plastic waste problem at the same time.

The authorities have allocated Rs 5.5 lakh for this purpose, and if funds run out, there is a proposal to get elected representatives (MLAs and MPs) to dip into their MP-LAD or MLACDS funds.

“The cafe will open on August 1. There are two reasons why we have started this scheme. First, the growing rise of plastic, particularly carry bags, has become a serious issue despite running constant checks on various commercial establishments. So, through this, we are trying to address the plastic problem. Second, there are around 100-odd homeless families for whom we will at least provide meals,” says Manoj Singh, the Municipal Commissioner of Ambikapur, speaking to The Better India.

Hoping for a Better India !
